Navagio Beach is a beautiful secluded beach on the Island of Zakynthos, Greece, with a photogenic wreck surrounded by turquoise waters and spectacular winding cliffs.
You have undoubtedly already seen this “wreck beach” because it is probably one of the most famous travel images in the world! The word has spread, and the beach is now full of tourists who want to see the old rusty shipwreck up close.
The best images of the Navagio wreck come from the sheer cliffs above rather than the beach itself, but it’s also fun to hop on a boat and see the beach at eye level if you’re up for the crowds.
This guide will teach you how to get to the best viewpoint in Navagio for photos, How to visit the beach by boat and see up close, which packages you can use in Zakynthos, and everything you need to know before you go!
The best Navagio Tour packages
Before going into details about the famous shipwreck beach of Greece, let’s talk about tourist packages.
The coast of Zakynthos is full of sea caves, beaches, and other wonderful sights that can only be seen with a boat trip.
We recommend GetYourGuide for boat trips in Zakynthos! They have highly appreciated tours for the best attractions such as Navagio Beach, the Blue Caves, the turtle island, and more. These tours usually include a free pick-up and drop-off service from the hotel in the most popular areas of Zakynthos.
Where is the beach of Navagio?
Navagio Beach is located at the northwest corner of the Island of Zakynthos in Greece.
The island of Zakynthos is easily accessible from Athens and there are daily flights and ferries at reasonable prices. The distance is only about 240 kilometers (150 mi) while the plane is flying.
How to visit the viewpoint of Navagio
If you mainly want to see the iconic postcard view and take photos of it, you can do it from the Navagio viewpoint, on the cliffs above the beach. This is where all the great photos of Navagio are taken and not on the beach itself.
You can get to the Navagio lookout point yourself by car or mountain bike, or book a one-day package that includes Transport to the lookout point as well as several other tourist sites of Zakynthos.
It is a 45-minute drive from the viewpoint of the main town of Zakynthos, and the paved road is mostly in good condition, although it turns into coarse gravel at the very end when you reach the parking lot.
If you are traveling by car, you can add this GPS position to your map to go directly to the Navagio viewpoint.
Unfortunately, there are very long queues to take photos at the Navagio Viewpoint, so you may have to wait in line for up to an hour during the summer months.
This is mainly due to the fact that only a small platform has been open on the cliffs since 2022, as the authorities are worried about falling stones on the cliff. The queues are shorter in the morning, but you still have to wait.
The new observation deck is surrounded by metal railings. You can barely see the wreckage, and you’ll need a wide-angle camera lens to capture decent images of the landscape, since the platform is so close to it. Forget about it with an ordinary lens.
