Activities in the Algarve
We rented a car in Lisbon and took a road trip along the west coast of Portugal to explore the beautiful Algarve coast. I don’t use breathtaking lightly, but its picturesque beaches and beauty really took our breath away, and I must admit that we didn’t expect such beautiful beaches and stunning rock formations. Activities in the Algarve-adventure activities
A great way to visit The Algarve is to take a road trip. You have the freedom to stop wherever you want to enjoy the breathtaking views, secluded beaches and hidden gems. Having a car gives you a lot of freedom to spend time enjoying the breathtaking landscapes.
1. hiking on the Seven Suspended Valleys trail
One of the best things to do in the Algarve is to hike the Seven Hanging Valleys trail. The path passes between the beaches of Vale Centeanes and Praia da Marinha. You can start from any end, but we started at Praia da Marinha. Our hotel, The Tivoli Carvoiero, offers free Tuk-Tuks at the trailhead, and we could hike all the way back.
2. boat trip to the Benagil Cave
Visiting the Benagil Cave in 2024 can be confusing. During our visit in October, you could only access the beach by motorboat. We have heard people say that now you can only visit them by kayak or SUP. However, looking at the tour booking, it seems that a motorboat is still the only way. Regardless of the mode of transport you use, you will always have to book an organized boat trip to visit the Benagil Cave.
You can get to the Benagil Cave by boat, you are not allowed to enter the sandy beach. Due to the overcrowding of boats and corpses on this small beach, it is heavily guarded to preserve its natural beauty. This kayak excursion (at the time of writing this article) is still possible to see one of the most beautiful beaches in the Algarve in Benagil.
The boat trips depart from Portimão and include transfers from the hotels in Carvoeiro or Lagos. You must book an organized tour with an authorized organizer to ensure that you comply with the laws. We did this little boat trip from Portimao and loved this sightseeing tour of the Algarve coast, including the visit to the Benagil Cave.
3. Ponta Da Piedade
Located just outside Lagos, Ponta da Piedade is the best place in the Algarve for sunset and one of the most beautiful coasts in the region. This imposing promontory is famous for its imposing cliffs, rocky arches, lake pillars and hidden caves. We really felt that we should dedicate a whole day to the Ponta da Piedade, go hiking from Lagos and take a boat trip to see it from below.
You can book this inexpensive boat trip to Ponta da Piedade from Lagos. On the way you will see Praia Dona Ana, Praia Dona Ana and the sea cliffs, the natural arches and the isolated caves of the magnificent coast.
