The Trent Severn Waterway is the largest inland waterway in the world. Most of the people who sail it own their own boats or have outrageously inexpensive huts on the water. However, there is a fun and affordable way to try a taste of the Trent Severn. The Boat offers luxury self-contained houseboats that you can rent for a few days to a few weeks so that you can explore the Trent wherever you want.
About the Trent Severn Waterway
The Trent-Severn Waterway is a national historic site that stretches for 386 kilometers (186 mi) from the Bay of Quinte on Lake Ontario in Trenton to Georgian Bay in Port Severn. Completed in 1920, the waterway has 44 locks, including the tallest hydraulic lifting lock in the world in Peterborough, which lifts boats 19.8 meters in buckets. Crossing the Trent Severn Waterway on a Le boat, you will pass by this incredible lock.
Hire a captain with the Boat
To make navigation even easier for new cruisers, Le Boat, the leader in private boat holidays in Europe and Canada, announces the launch of its innovative Skipper rental program.
Available exclusively along the picturesque Canal du Midi in France from the 2025 Season at the price of only per day, travelers can call on the expertise of an experienced skipper of the Boat to accompany them on their maiden voyage. On the first full day of the trip, the appointed Skipper gives guests practical instructions on the operation of the boat, navigation techniques, and maneuvers through the locks. This personalized guide builds confidence and allows customers to navigate independently for the rest of their excursion.
The Boat’s Horizon 2 + boat
It was our fifth trip By Boat, so we felt very comfortable in the captain’s chair of our luxury houseboat Horizon 2+. My brother and sister-in-law Jim and Janice joined us for this adventure, and the boat can comfortably accommodate four people. There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen with a large refrigerator, an oven, a stove, and a barbecue on the upper deck. Dishes and kitchen utensils are delivered with a washcloth, a broom and a mop.
Although the boat can accommodate four people, you can easily drive this boat with two people, but it is certainly much more fun to have extra help with ropes when crossing locks and mooring for the night.
Trent Severn Waterway With The Boat
We took a seven-day cruise from Le Boat Marina south of Peterborough to Bobcaygeon. During our trip we passed through 13 locks and had an awesome adventure on one of the most beautiful waterways in the world.
The boats are very well equipped with sheets, duvets and pillows. Bath and bath towels are provided, as well as all kitchen utensils. There is a huge water tank on board, and we rarely had to fill our tank during a Boat trip. However, you can fill it in marinas. Keep it short and sweet when you take a shower so you don’t have to refill the tank all the time.
We recommend that you bring beach towels, extra tea towels and cleaning cloths for a seven-day trip. We also packed shampoo, soap and extra toilet paper. However, you can use the toilets at the locks every evening, and they are very clean. We recommend that you use public toilets as often as possible so that you don’t have to worry about emptying your tanks or filling up on water during your seven-day trip. If you need a pump, there is an additional charge, but they are offered in marinas along the waterway.
One thing we highly recommend is additional hangers for your clothes. It is much easier to organize in the closet with more hangers.
